For years, a school and kindergarten in a small Slovenian village faced challenges typical of ageing oil-based heating systems. The boiler was worn out and increasingly unreliable, and heating had to be switched off already at 3 p.m. to keep expenses under control. Even then, the building consumed around 10,000–12,000 litres of heating oil per year, placing a major burden on the municipality. The domestic hot-water tank was too small for the kitchen and sanitary facilities, and the piping network was so outdated that the entire boiler room required a complete overhaul.
Under such conditions, the decision was clear: the school needed a modern, reliable, and long-term sustainable solution.
A complete boiler-room renovation with ADAPT MAX
Every weakness of the outdated system has been addressed by installing the high-capacity ADAPT MAX air-to-water heat pump, which replaced the worn-out boiler. To ensure sufficient domestic hot water, a 1,000-litre DHW tank was integrated into the system, providing reliable supply for the kitchen and sanitary rooms even during peak usage. The old and undersized hydraulics were upgraded with a complete refurbishment of the pipework, ensuring optimal heat flow and more stable system performance.
A 1,000-litre buffer tank was installed as well, improving operating conditions, increasing heating flexibility, and enabling future system expansion. The new boiler room is now prepared for the possible addition of cooling in the next renovation phase.
A warm building, fewer worries, and clear savings
The school and kindergarten have taken a major step forward—from wasteful and unpredictable heating to modern, stable, and efficient operation with ADAPT MAX.
- More heat, no more shutdowns: heating no longer needs to be switched off at 3 p.m.; rooms remain comfortably warm throughout the afternoon for various activities and preparations.
- Significant savings: the former 10,000–12,000 litres of oil per season have been replaced by highly efficient air-to-water technology. With an SCOP of 5.82, the system requires roughly five times less energy to deliver the same amount of heat, generating thousands of euros in annual savings.
- Reliable operation without downtime: the modular design of ADAPT MAX ensures that if one module stops, the others continue heating seamlessly—keeping the building warm even in case of a fault or service intervention.
