MAN SWITCHES TO GREEN ENERGY WITH HEAT PUMPS

For their flagship green energy transition project, they chose to upgrade the outdated heating system in their service and sales center in Ljubljana. 

Why Transition to Heat Pumps?

Previously, MAN relied on natural gas for heating—a solution misaligned with their commitment to reducing CO2 emissions. By installing air-to-water heat pumps that harness energy from the air, they significantly reduced emissions and optimized energy consumption, staying true to their principle of minimal environmental impact.

Adaptability Overcame Challenges

Initially, a water-to-water system was planned due to access to groundwater at the site. However, test drilling revealed high levels of iron and manganese, which would have complicated system operations. With the flexibility and versatility of KRONOTERM’s solutions, the plans were successfully revised to include reliable air-to-water heat pumps. 

The New System: Efficiency and Comfort Combined

The new setup features three KRONOTERM WPL 90 heat pumps and a WPB 18 booster for domestic hot water production. This system provides heating for offices and workshops during winter and cooling in summer. The offices utilize fan coils to maintain a pleasant temperature, while the workshops are equipped with industrial-grade air heaters. 

 

The system is further optimized to utilize waste heat from the cooling system for hot water production, minimizing energy losses. Additionally, the hydraulic balance ensures smooth operation even under demanding conditions.
